Fall into Me (An Over the Edge Novel), by Julia London

From Publishers Weekly London's luscious latest (after Material Girl) provides prime escapist material that's perfect for anyone who reads tabloids in supermarket check-out lines to see who's breaking up or hooking up. Audrey Larue's a talented Texas songbird who becomes a supernova stuck with a controlling boyfriend, second-rate musician Lucas Bonner, a greedy entourage and a needy white trash family. After meeting extreme outdoorsman/stuntman (and military vet) Jack Price, Audrey and Lucas hire him to oversee security for her summer concert tour. He's got eyes for Audrey (as does she, quietly, for him), and the love triangle that develops is eclipsed in drama only by a creepy, vampire-fetishist stalker who's making death threats against Audrey. This is a great one to throw in the beach bag. (Aug.) Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Disappointed By Karlyn I really wanted to like this book, as I enjoyed the first two books in this series, but American Diva was just a frustrating read. This story is about Audrey, an ultra-famous pop singer of 28, and Jack, an ex-military, pilot and stunt person for Thrill Seekers Anonymous. Jack gets hired to provide security after she gets a few threatening letters.First let me say that I think Julia London is a very talented writer, but as I have come to know her stories are either a "Hit" or "Miss". And her misses can almost always be boiled down to the same fundamental problem: the story focuses on characters who you simply don't like or care about. This is the problem with American Diva.In American Diva, *ALL* of the secondary characters are jerks. Her co-workers, boyfriend, and entire family are all horrible people with no redeeming qualities. None of the subplot stories were fun, entertaining, or enjoyable. The story also includes a bad guy, and we know from the beginning who he is, so it was just a subplot to keep Jack and Audrey together. When the bad guy gets caught, it was very anti-climatic. To make this book worse, the heroine Audrey is not very likable. She is a diva, and acts horribly through most of the book. She is either a raging *itch without apology, or a complete doormat getting walked all over. She has a few normal moments with Jack, but in most of their very short and totally unrealistic relationship she is awful to him. She makes a few "TSTL" decisions that frustrated me to know end. Jack was the best part of the book, but truthful he is the same guy from so many other romance novels. His character is so cookie cutter, i.e...tall, built, dark hair, blue eyes, handsome as sin, treats his woman like gold, and can perform in bed like stud he thinks he is. I wont even get into how I didn't like the ending, but just know it has a strange conclusion that did not leave my heart melting. It left me scratching my head thinking "huh, that's it?!"Given all of this, I would highly recommend you read the first book in the series "Wedding Survivor" as it was great. The follow up "Extreme Bachelor" wasn't as good, but it was a likable story. But skip this one.

However, by the middle of the book, London had started to change Jack's character from a take-charge alpha male to a spineless, hormonal teenager with no pride and zero taste in women. Audrey was completely unlikeable. She was the worst book character: whiny, bratty, spineless, rude and TSTL. (Too Stupid To Live in book-speak.) How in the world Jack saw this hot mess and thought "I wanna get with this girl!" was beyond me. Usually when an author makes a character this unlikeable, they do something to make us forgive them or they go through something that makes them wake up and see themselves as the brat they've become and try to do something to change that. Not with Audrey. She is literally TSTL all the way up to 97% on my kindle. The worse plot device that London does is the "love triangle" plot. She makes it worse and writes Audrey and Jack as cheaters, like we're supposed to get behind their illicit relationship and be okay with it only because Audrey's boyfriend is a total jerk. Nope. Mature adults get out of relationships before starting new ones. Oh but wait. I was talking about mature adults of which Jack and Audrey are not. They act like horny teenagers and whine and cry about being together, blah, blah, blah. Oh! And let's not forget there's some wacko that's out there stalking Audrey which turns out to be totally lame too. Note to Author: Readers want strong characters! Not whiny brats who throw tantrums when the world isn't fair to them.

This one was a very frustratingread I stopped and started it a couple of times. It was too up and down and you did not care about the characters. After waiting so long for the final book in this series it was a big disappointment. They made the book an oversize paperback raised the price and it was not worth it.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Amazing Book Full Of Love And Hope For The Future By koala571 Wow!!! Phantom Heart was an amazing read and a must read. This book had me page turning to see how this would all play out within the story.Rachel Wainwright is still grieving from the death of her husband (Luke), when a stranger walks into the business she works for, calls her Ragdoll, then collapses. No one knew that name, except Luke and she wants answers. The stranger is rejecting his heart as he hasn't been taking his anti-rejection medication. When Luke passed his organs were donated and the stranger received Luke's heart. The doctors explained to Rachel and Luke's parents that cellular memory occurred. The stranger has all of Luke's memories and feelings. This is hard from everyone to understand and they test the stranger in many different ways.Rachel doesn't want anything to do with it, but she is visited by Zelda (Psychic) and informs her that her deceased mother told her to look her up. Zelda informs Rachel that Luke spirit is still on earth.Rachel and the stranger start getting closer as Beth Ann (Luke's mother) believes that Luke's soul is within the stranger. Rachel has a strong pull to the stranger as does the stranger and finally she decide to give in to the feelings.Love is never smooth and life is short as things come to an abrupt halt between the stranger and Rachel as the stranger's wife, Lara comes into the picture. The fight is over and the battle won, so who wins is it Rachel or Lara?Kim Bowman writes a wonderful story full of love, sadness and hope for the future. The characters are real and I could relate to them on a very personal level. This book is a must read and I would highly recommend you one click.

By Krystal The first things that I am going to tell you is that the synopsis of this story does NOT do it justice. When I was first asked to read this story, I was expecting a completely different story than the one I got - and that is definitely a good thing in this case. What I was expecting was either a paranormal story where the main character falls in love with the actual ghost of her husband, or some campy story where her dead husband came back as some sort of zombie (without all the flesh eating). What I got was a powerful and deeply meaningful story about love, loss and second chances. In Phantom Heart (an appropriate title if I do say so myself), we meet Rachel Wainwright, who is still deeply grieving the loss of her husband Luke. While at work one night, a stranger comes into her place of employment and collapses at her feet after calling her a pet name that was only known to her and Luke. After rushing to the hospital to demand answers from the man, she is instead thrust into something she cannot begin to comprehend. This stranger was the recipient of Luke's heart - and now due to what the doctors' call cellular memory - all of Luke's memories and mannerisms are now the stranger's.Unfortunately, I can't give away any more than that without spoiling the rest of the story - and this is really one of those stories that you have to read for yourself. It speaks deeply of painful loss, and starting over - and the difference between just being alive and actually living. The one thing I will say that I did not like was the ending. It wasn't a matter of the story not being wrapped up as it was completely, it was more the fact that at the end a certain character does something that I cannot agree with. Its not that I don't understand their reasoning because I do, but I don't feel as though their decision was the right one. If I had been in that situation it is something that I would have wanted to know.Overall, this did not take away from the story as a whole, and I rather liked the way that things seemed to be better for everyone at the end (in more ways than one) than they were when the story began.DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.

If you want a book that will draw on dang near every emotion, this is it! Phantom Heart does not come with the traditional romance HEA we all love where the H and h skip off into the sunset beaming with love and happiness, but there is a great ending. Maybe not the one I was originally hoping for, but as the book came to a close, it was a great way to end the story, and in the end, there is still a happy ending. This touches on love, loss, deep sadness, anger, despair, hope, forgiveness, starting over, and second chances.

I was drawn into the story right from the first page. I could feel and see what Alice experienced from the moment she woke up, then “shambled carefully along” searching for her first coffee of the day, to her poolside discovery. As the story develops there is more to connect the reader to book than learning more about the unknown victim and the “who did it” aspect of the story. As the connections and friendships between the various members of the Superstition Murder Club were revealed I had to keep reading about these wily women and the discipline, determination, and dilemmas that shaped their personalities.
