I couldn’t put it down By Sadie Sinclair Pirates Promise is a sequel to Stolen Treasures, it is the 2nd book in the series and my favorite. I couldn’t put it down. Assessing why, I know it’s the hero who is introduced in the first book. Hawk, Haken Thoralssen, is larger then life and is the stuff of dreams. Of course handsome, wealthy and with a healthy dose of testosterone, but a modern day pirate? Does it get better than this?When the village, that is Hawks wife’s family home, is destroyed in a mudslide Hawk watches as it takes his wife and his heart. Estranged from his father and the wealth to help the village Hawk takes to the high seas.The reconstruction of the village is underway when Hawk is captured. He’s content to take his punishment and offers little defense for his attorney Julia Branholt to work with.Almost at once Julia and Hawk butt heads. She doesn’t want another pro bono case, and this one doesn’t even further her professional goals. Besides she doesn’t like the man. Hawk doesn’t want defending; he’ll take whatever he has to if it means securing the village. Plus she rubs him the wrong way with the attraction that flares between them.Then Hawk gets word that the work on the village is being sabotaged. He can’t sit in a cell, he needs out and secures bail. The problem is the bail is posted in Julia Branholt’s name. Julia knows this will professional suicide and sets out to bring him back.Profession suicide turns to just plain suicide as Julia plunges into the jungle to find Tierra Bonita and Hawk.This story has it all. Laurie Ryan paints a story in words of suspense, love, and sacrifice. You’ll fall in love with the gentle villagers. And, watch as Hawk and Julia fight their attraction to each other. A satisfying read that will have you turning pages and dreaming the night away.
