Between the fact that her parents died when she was young and that the one person she thought had her best interests at heart tu By Moujnir Starting Over is a book that literally encompasses its title. At the beginning of the story, the main character, Kailen, is attempting to move on from the traumatizing event that caused her to cancel her wedding plans with her fiancé, Mark, five years ago. Between the fact that her parents died when she was young and that the one person she thought had her best interests at heart turned out to be quite selfish, she truly believes that she is doomed to spend a life filled with backstabbing relationships and emptiness.This worldview is shattered when one day, while working with her late mom’s best friend Lou-Verne Kailen meets a handsome man by the name of Devon Masters who takes an immediate interest in her. As the story goes on, their attraction deepens, and Kailen finds herself falling in love. But when a dangerous ghost from her past appears, Kailen wonders if she can ever really start over.My favorite part of this book was the characters themselves. The way their individual personalities clashed and sometimes entwined when they interacted made them intriguing. However, I felt like even though I was interested in the characters, the pacing of the plot didn’t give me enough time to really get to know them. I would’ve liked to see some of the important events that were glossed over in the book in more detail, as they felt vital to the story. The supernatural elements that were interspersed throughout the novel confused me a bit, but the contemporary elements were handled well, particularly in Kailen’s case. Her thoughts and feelings were dominated by self-loathing and anxiety as a result of a previous oppressive relationship, and that portrayal was very realistic. This book has a good story, and if you are a fan of quick pacing and time jumps, you will enjoy it.3/5

Matt Dunn is not an author I’m familiar with, but I tend to gravitate toward British authors (I’ve found they write some of the most lighthearted books) and thought the blurb sounded interesting.The book had a bit of a slow start as the first chapter basically introduces the five characters (Sophie, Calum, Nathan, Julie, and Mark) and gives a little background of each of them and their particular romantic situations. Once I got past the first chapter, the characters begin interacting with one another and the story begins to pick up.Nathan’s Anti-Valentine’s day party is, ironically, a focal point of this Valentine’s Day story. Many of the characters are using this event as a way to try to romance one another, although by the end the event loses some of its luster.The point of view of the novel is always third person, but the author does a really excellent job of still putting the reader inside each character’s head. It was really interesting to read what each character was thinking, and – predictably – everyone was getting each other confused on who was interested in who in the office.One thing I really enjoyed about the book was the banter. There were often times where the characters would interact with one another and there were very slapstick-type jokes throughout. I enjoyed the lightheartedness of the comedy and the easy way the jokes flowed.The ending is happy, as you might expect, but not in the way you think it will be. It is unpredictable enough to be interesting but you can count on the happy ending.I found this book to be a cute and quick read, but it’s not a book that I think I would reread. I love strong men, men with personality, great character, and this book had none of that! It was just filled with insecure, weak, and whiney male characters. Books should be a great distraction with entertaining characters and this was the exact opposite! The whole book takes place in a one day span. There's so much rambling and internal doubt with limited interaction with the characters that I found my attention wondering. Can you say boring!?! I do not recommend this book at all! This is my first and last book by this author.

That is until I realized / realised the author is British! However, the skewed spelling didn’t stop this U.S. girl from continuing reading. I thought A Day at the Office was clever, laugh-out-loud funny, and romantic. The fact that it all takes place in one day is hilarious. Yes, there are a lot of characters, but half the fun is in keeping up with them. Well done, definitely worth the read. I absolutely love this book!

I identified with Grace from the very beginning when she was "used" by that sleazebag Gunter Quill. I was very glad she stuck up for herself when George Carpenter pulled his shit on her. I liked that Jake was a bit unsure of himself from time to time and that he wasn't a macho alpha male. As always, I love the insights into New Your City and central park. I could tell Jean wrote this story in the spring; from the description of what spring flowers were blooming in Central Park. All of the books in the Hollywood Hearts series are great reads but this is the sweetest and my favorite.

Great characters By Nanee Nanee's Review:Great cast of characters, loved Grace, she's a beautiful young women, sister to a famous actress and soon to be screenwriter. Jake a sexy as hell actors whose just beginning his career and is somewhat shy and naive. When they meet sparks fly, ok not right when they meet but that part was very funny. Gunther a high and mighty, take no prisoners, have sex with whoever I want film producer could make or break many careers. Thought that part was written perfectly, I wanted to hit Gunther. Cara Grace's big sister is always there for her but when someone hurts Grace Cara is there with gloves on. Love the sister's relationship and of course Cara's finance Grant. When Jake and Grace get together kisses are frantic and bodies are hot, loved the flirting and kisses between the two. Very sweet story. If your looking for a romance with light humor and ups and downs this books for you ....4 starsReview byUpallnightreadallday.blogspot.com
