Review

  • "The passion is strong, the characters stronger and the story line of second chances, true love, and letting go of the past to embrace the future is awesome." Reviews by Molly
  • "...once you start this wonderful book, you won't want to stop until you've devoured it in its entirety." The Romance Reviews
  • From the Author Hi! I thought I'd share a bit about how this book came to be. I'm a character writer. To me, my characters are never merely pretend people on the pages of a book. They're real to me. They sit down and they introduce themselves, and they share their lives with me. I can't force my characters to be or to do anything. They are who they are. I get to know them like friends and let them tell me their story. I like to say that I just take dictation.   My heroine, Angela, originally came to me in something someone else had written. Sadly, I don't recall where I'd seen it, only that it was a message board I'd come across. I only recall that it was a single paragraph someone had shared, about two or three sentences, and the basic idea was the main character worked as a stripper. The idea immediately intrigued me. This particular idea I'd come across wasn't meant to be a romance, but being a romance writer, I immediately wondered...what kind of heroine would work as a stripper? At first it was almost a challenge. Could I pull off something like this? Well, Angela stepped out and with a little smile and a wave, said hello.   Of course, then I needed a hero. Well, Alex stepped out and said hello. He wasn't at all what I expected him to be. At the start of the book, Alex is a man completely out of place in his world. His entire life has been dumped on its ear. A year before the book opens, Alex's wife and four year old daughter were killed in a drunk driving accident. At the beginning of the book, Alex is struggling to come to terms with his loss. He's down in Vegas with friends trying to find a bit of peace, trying to pick up his shattered remains and move on with his life. Meeting Angela is a fluke. A friend drags him to the strip club she works in and orders him a lap dance.   A Second Chance at Forever is my play on the one-night stand theme that's so popular. I thought to myself, what if that one night had life altering consequences? I didn't really expect what followed. Alex took me by storm and captured my heart. Out of all my heroes, he remains one who sits closest to my heart. I hope you enjoy their story as much I enjoyed writing it.

    About the Author

I think I've been writing stories most of my life, but I started writing novels somewhere around ten years ago. It started out as a dream I had early one morning that begged to be written down, and the more I wrote, the more story unfolded. That manuscript has since been lost and will thankfully never see the light of day, but I'm very grateful to the powers that be for starting me on this road. I love to read romance. There's just something about reading a good love story. Writing them has become a passion of mine. Personally...I live in the state of Washington, in the rainy great Northwest! Married to my own hero, and have two teenage boys and two very spoiled puppies. When I'm not writing, I'm usually reading, playing computer games, or playing with the dogs.

Just what you'd expect from JM Stewart By Dixie Brown The author has a way with a story and a style of writing that just makes you keep turning those pages. Her characters are real people with problems, fears and needs. Sparks fly from the minute Angela meets Alex and the sexual tension never lets up. If you love a good plot with lots of romance and characters you want to root for, A Second Chance at Forever is a must-read.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. A great romance. By Amazon Customer I love JM Stewarts writing. She always manages to mix sweet and heartwarming with a little bit of sexy spice. Her heroes are sexy as hell and her heroines are fiesty and always have you cheering them on.Alex, the hero in this story, is drop dead sexy but he also kind broke my heart a little bit - okay well a lot and if there's one thing I love its a sexy, tortured hero. And Angie is great, she's a stripper with a good heart who can't believe it when the guy she crushed on years ago walks into her club.Their story is fantastic and I couldn't put this down. Can definitely reccommend this one.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A second chance By abrown This book was a fun read and I really enjoyed it. Like someone else said though I wish there had been an epilogue or something to tell the reader how they were a year or two down the road once the babies had come just to get a glimpse of their future. And without giving away to much I was also confused on the whole name business. The whole reason he found out who she was is the slip up and calling him by the name she had called him as a child but then she never calls him that again the entire story where as he calls her by her childhood name from that point on. It seemed odd to me that she would slip up and then never again. Other than that no complaints.

What if the real you was the one person your husband couldn't ever meet? Jane Johansen has carefully crafted a seemingly-perfect life. She's blessed with an adoring husband, Edward, two unwavering best friends, a powerful corporate job, and a high-security penthouse. Then one day, Jane is unceremoniously fired, Edward's father abruptly dies, and Jane's painstakingly-built world starts crashing down around her. Edward decides that they should move to his North Carolina hometown, to settle into suburbia surrounded by his large, extended brood. Although Jane is fascinated by the world of happy families and movie set-perfect homes, she knows that she can never fit in there. The problem is that she has never explained the facts of her life to Edward. Jane hopes moving south will allow her to escape the shadows of her past: her time-warped mother, the trauma of her college years that has left her scarred, and her terrifying ex-boyfriend, who has been recently paroled. Most haunting is Jane's oldest and worst friend, who has been trying to track her down with the determination of a bloodhound. Weaving the defining moments of a woman's past into the suspenseful unraveling of her present, Rachel Michael Arends pens a thought-provoking novel that will have readers enthralled from start to finish.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Kept me interested from beginning to end. By JA Cady I really enjoyed the book. I struggled at times with some of the abusive relationship issues and dishonesty in relationships but the author did a very nice job of bringing it around to the importance of being honest and getting help.

0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Complex and Entertaining By Janet I went with 4 stars because of the complexity of Rachel Michael Arends writing. This novel exists and explores on so many levels of human interaction. It deals with death; I think every character either experiences or relives the death of someone close during the course of the story. Themes of loss, levels of love, helplessness, memory (real and imagined), dreams and human connection are explored. Because of the many avenues of discussion and discovery I encountered while reading, Settling, at times was a slow read for me. A strong premise, and an intricately woven story, combined with extremely layered characters and a bit of psychological suspense made for a very entertaining read. I think that this novel would lend itself well as a book discussion selection. I would definitely read more from this author.*I received my copy through NetGalley.com in exchange for an honest review.

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. I flew though this one, well done! By lighthouse88 One of the best characteristics about Lauraine Snelling’s books is that each one is an adventure of the heart for the reader! What the author presents is usually a heart-touching story that resounds within the soul of anyone who opens her books. Someday Home takes on various issues of women in different circumstances in life. I loved it, especially because the women were middle-aged women. The house they came to live in was owned by Lyn who recently lost her husband suddenly. Now, two years later, she is going through menopause and looking for ways to experience new adventures. Then there is Judith who is an only child, and whose father frankly was a mean man. Now Judith must leave her home and begin to find her way in life without being kept at her father’s beck and call. Last, but not least there is Angela who celebrates her 25th anniversary with her husband who then drops the bomb that he has filed for divorce. All three are broken, have issues of the heart and desires too. All three wonder just what God has in store for them when a Bassett hound shows up needing care. They learn to meld together as sisters and as friends.I loved the scenery described in the book, which includes a lake. All three ladies enjoy quiet nights listening to crickets on the deck and just chatting or being quiet. When rough waters come, the girls learn they either draw near to God and each other or they continue to live alone. Sometimes I chuckled at certain instances in the story and other times I felt like calling a character a jerk! All in all though Lauraine’s novel encourages us to walk each day with our hand in God’s and that friendship is to be treasured.Later this year Lauraine’s 4th book in the Song of Blessing series will be released and I look forward to reading it as I have read the other books in the series. Books are a great way to enjoy time relaxing and even more fun when shared with a friend. So visit a store, pick up Someday Home and settle back to enjoy the tale.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Lauraine Snelling has given us another wonderful novel with Someday Home! By Kris Anderson - The Avid Reader Lauraine Snelling has done it again with Someday Home. Someday Home is a contemporary Christian novel about three women in the 40’s and early 50’s. Marlynn “Lynn” Lundberg lives in Lake Barnett, Minnesota. She lost her husband one year and nine months ago (not that she is keeping track). Her big, log home on the lake seems empty since her husband died and her three children have left the nest. Lately, Lynn has been experiencing times when she gets really hot, short temper, gets weepy, night sweats, trouble sleeping, and experiencing memory issues (as soon as I read the symptoms I knew what was wrong with her). Lynn does not know what is wrong with her, but at the prodding of her kids, she goes to the doctor. Lynn is going through menopause. Lynn’s family is very close. Lynn and her two sons runs the family plumbing business. Her daughter, Lillian is a teacher. Her son, Phillip and his family live on the same land as Lynn’s home and the business. Lynn does not to build a smaller home for herself. Her doctor recommends house sharing. It is not a new concept, but it is becoming more popular. After some research and consulting with her family, Lynn decides that God is leading her to do house sharing. She also feels that the right people will come along to live in the house.Angela Bishop is celebrating her twenty-fifth wedding anniversary with her husband, Jack. Angela has worked hard to be the type of woman her husband wants on his arm (thin, well dressed, nails and hair done, and a successful job). After eating their anniversary dinner at a very expensive restaurant, her husband tells her that he filed for divorce that morning. Angela is stunned. She did not see this coming (all the signs were there though). Angela is fifty-one and does not know what she is going to do now.Judith Rutherford is forty-seven years old. She has been taking care of her parents for over twenty years. Her parents always promised her that she would be taken care of when they passed away. Her mother died five years previously and her father just passed away. Judith has found out that the family home and furnishing have been left in a trust to turn the property into a living history museum (of what life was like in the early 1900’s). Judith received nothing. She can, though, stay on as caretaker of the museum (gee, isn’t that just swell of them). Judith has a small inheritance that she received from a grandmother and any furnishing in the house that she purchased (how generous of them). Judith’s cousin, Melody tells Judith to make her dreams come true. What has Judith dreamed of doing? What does she want to do now that she is free?Lynn meets Judith at a quilting expo (where there are hundreds of people). Lynn feels that Judith and her met for a reason and suggests that Judith come check out the house. Lynn’s son, Tom and Angela’s son, Charlie are old friends. When Charlie hears about the shared housing, he mentions it to his mother. The two women move into the house and they start their new lives. Lynn is going to have some big adjustments. She is going to have to learn to not micromanage Judith and Angela (or mother them). Lynn tells them that this is all of their home and she is going to come to regret those words (for a little while) especially when Judith buys a big chicken house (and then sets out to find some chickens). Judith enrolls in the university and loves her classes (except pre-calculus where she needs a little extra help). Judith always wanted to be an anthropologist. Angela has to decide what she wants to do. Real estate is not something she really enjoys. Her fondest memories of working the school library when her children where younger. Angela volunteers at the local library and enjoys it. Can it lead to a full-time job? Can three women who will all be going through menopause (at some point) live together happily?Someday Home is a beautifully crafted story. It is nice that someone has written a story about women in the 40’s and early 50’s getting a second chance at life. I give Someday Home 5 out of 5 stars. The story has relatable characters, a beautiful setting, dogs, a cat, chickens, family, and laughter. I liked how Ms. Snelling handled Lynn and her menopause. As someone going through menopause, I know how difficult and frustrating it is (hot flashes, short temper, memory issues, night sweats). Someday Home is an incredible book by an amazing writer.I received a complimentary copy of Someday Home from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The review and opinions expressed are my own.

Sometimes the water is calm, and sometimes it is overwhelming. All we can do is learn to swim.”― Vicki HarrisonWhen I read this quote today, it fit so well with the book I am reviewing tonight, I had to share it.Lauraine Snelling has been a quality writer for a number of years and I tell you right now, she hasn't lost her touch. Someday Home is one of those books that just makes the reader feel good all the way through.Lynn is a widow with a house on the lake bigger than she needs, but she doesn't want to give it up, so she decides to share her home with two other women. Judith is a middle-aged woman whose father has just passed away and left her house to the county for an historical site. Angela is a woman whose husband tells her on their 25th anniversary he wants a divorce. These three women have to work through anger, grief, and disillusionment and find their place in God's hands. To read the narrative as the women grow into the women God has meant for them to be is a tremendous pleasure. Lauraine will pull the readers' heart strings, bring tears to their eyes, and fill them with love.Judith finds herself learning to cook, Angela rediscovers her love of cooking, Lynn finds herself learning to share and not to "over-mother" the others in her home. The three become sisters in every sense of the word--except for genetics.Someday Home is not a romance, but it does fit into the women's fiction category. A definite five stars, two thumbs up, and a canoe ride on a quiet lake.My thanks to FaithWords for allowing me to read and review this book. My only requirement was to be honest in my feelings about the book.
