3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Impressive By Molly Schurig The End of the Road is an impressive first effort from Roan Poulter. His turn of phrase and use of metaphor are uniquely his own, giving the reader a sense of having an old yarn told from the memory of a trusted elder. The main character, Anne, is extremely relatable, while not being a mere shell to climb into. Poulter has a strong grasp of the female psyche and presents real-life dilemmas with care and thoughtfulness, while avoiding heavy-handedness or a moral lesson. Life is what it is and we can determine our own paths, much like Anne discovers on her own Road.

As a reader of a lot of contemporary romance I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. Any preconceived notions I had were quickly extinguished.Anne is a writer, she has written books that she has poured her heart and soul into only to be rejected. As a joke she decides to write erotica and wouldn't you know it, that is what takes off. Making her a household name which is good and bad as Anne finds out. Critisism and judgment along with misconceptions of who she is as a person follow her as she tries to navigate her world.Roan Poulter's writing style allows you as the reader the opportunity to delve deep into Anne's inner turmoil and I will admit there were times she made me laugh out loud with her inner dialouge, then again, there were times that laughing was the furthest thing from my mind. I felt her emotions clearly as if they were my own. That to me is the mark of a truly gifted writer. This story is not a fairytale, it is however, an engrossing all consuming story.I look forward to reading more from this gifted author
