Elizabeth Zurlo is lost. She's a wife, a mother, a teacher, a PTA volunteer - but somewhere along the way, she has lost herself. Depression and despair can lead to desperate measures, and when she is pulled back from the brink of suicide, Elizabeth slowly tries to rebuild her marriage and reclaim her life.
Just as she has finally started to put herself back together, a scandalous novel rocks her small town...and costs Elizabeth her social standing, friendships, and ultimately, her marriage. However, the man who seemingly destroyed Elizabeth's life helps her realize who she is and what she needs to do to become the woman she's capable of being, and the woman she used to be.

Hold Her Down By Jersey Girl Book Reviews / Jersey Girl Sizzling Book Reviews Through nine years of marriage, Elizabeth Zurlo has slowly lost her self-identity to the one of wife, mother, and teacher. Elizabeth feels like her chaotic life has swallowed her up, she desperately tries to balance the demands in her life, but she never gets a chance to breathe, leaving her burned out, empty, depressed, at the end of her rope, and seriously on the verge of losing it. With a failing marriage to an unfeeling and controlling man, to the always needy demands from her family and work, Elizabeth is resentful and feels disconnected from the world, she is on auto pilot and in survival mode. All Elizabeth wants is to feel beautiful, appreciated, alive, to be the woman she used to be so long ago.Hold Her Down is an intriguing story about a woman who has lost her identity to her everyday life commitments and responsibilities. Author Kathryn R. Biel weaves a realistic tale that engages the reader to follow Elizabeth's journey as she struggles to maintain a balance in the daily grind of life while dealing with her self doubts and insecurities, which eventually leads her to rediscovering the woman who she used to be. While Elizabeth's story starts out slow with a painful and realistic look of her daily life, the author slowly gains momentum and takes the reader along for the ride as Elizabeth struggles to take control of her life, making changes that will lead her become a strong and independent woman.Hold Her Down is a refreshing story of one woman's journey of self-discovery that every woman should read. It is a realistic story that any woman can relate to and sympathize with, ponder, find inspiration, and celebrate their true inner-selves and the women that they can be.Disclaimer: I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. 2.5 stars By The Every Free Chance Reader 2.5 starsDid I enjoy this book: Parts of this book I did enjoy. Other parts not so much. I really struggled with how I felt about it.On the one hand, I could relate to Elizabeth to an extent. I think that every woman struggles with juggling everything and thinking that she has to be the one does everything. We all have feelings of not being good enough or needing validation. I don’t think many would be on the verge of suicide, but I am sure there are quite a few who would be. Also, there is a community of competing overachieving mothers out there. I, for one, try to stay out of that competition. But there are many that try to be as good or better just to fit in.I liked how the story unfolded. I liked the idea of an old high school crush still longing for the one he couldn’t have. I liked the aspect of him developing a completely different kind of novel to further his career and using that love as his muse. Very interesting. Elizabeth’s husband was an ass. I really didn’t like him from the beginning. The moms were annoying and mean. I liked the dinner with her mom and dad at the end. Priceless! On the other hand, I felt that the story was weighed down by the repeated telling of her story about being close to suicide. The constant complaining about not being good enough, not receiving validation, not getting money, etc was too much for me. Plus, it was the same thing over and over again. These stories were told multiple times and in the same way. After a while, I just started skimming it because I had read it before, a few times. If it weren’t for that, this book would have been a solid three and a half stars for me.Would I recommend it: I wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend it, but I wouldn’t dissuade anyone from reading it. In fact, I’d like to hear others’ thoughts on it.Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Totally relatable By Amazon customer Kathryn Biel has written a heroine we can all relate to. A kind and caring person, Elizabeth lost her identity in the everyday tedium of being a wife and mother--until, at her lowest point, she's rescued, physically and, in a way, spiritually, by someone who knew her when she was a different person entirely.Eventually she finds her way back to herself, but what I liked about this story was that Elizabeth's (re)growth as a person isn't dependent on the love of a man--in fact, she grows in spite of the men who influence her life. I can say no more without getting all spoilery, so I'll just leave it at that and close with the advice to read this book!
