From Publishers Weekly The second installment of Kent's Hope Springs contemporary romance series (after The Second Chance Café) stands refreshingly alone, setting out a new situation with new protagonists and allowing background to remain background. Luna Meadows has been in love with Angelo Caffey since she was a schoolgirl, but the tragic and mysterious death of Sierra, Angelo's sister and Luna's best friend, tore apart their youthful romance and devastated the Caffey family. Angelo's been gone from their hometown of Hope Springs, Tex., for eight years, but when Luna buys his abandoned family home in a foreclosure sale, he returns for a last chance to uncover the secrets he's sure Luna is keeping about his sister's death. There's drama aplenty, and though the setting is nothing special, Kent uses strong, clear writing to emphasize the believable and not-quite-predictable character interaction that makes this series stand out. Review "Written very much in the style of early Nora Roberts or JoAnn Ross, Kent makes Hope Springs come alive with vivid details and beautiful romance." —RT Book Reviews, 4 Stars
“Kent writes with a silky, understated finesse, and her story craft yields an engaging, layered read. Beneath the Patchwork Moon is lingering and lyrical, a heartrending yet hope-filled story of everlasting loss and love.” —Kathy Altman, USA Today
About the Author A native Texan, Alison Kent sold one of her over fifty published works live on the “Isn’t It Romantic?” episode of CBS’s 48 Hours. The resulting novel, Call Me, was a Romantic Times finalist for Best First Series Book. She was nominated for the national Quill Awards for her 2005 Kensington Brava release, The Beach Alibi. Striptease, part of her popular gIRL-gEAR series, was an RT Reviewer’s Choice Award nominee; and her 2009 novel, No Limits, was a Cosmopolitan Red Hot Read. Alison is also the author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Writing Erotic Romance. If there’s a better career out there than writing, Alison doesn’t want to know about it, as she’s quite happy putting pen to paper in the backyard of her Texas home. She lives with her petroleum geologist husband, three rescue dogs (one a Hurricane Katrina survivor), and a colony of not-quite-feral cats. She battles the heat each year to raise a bumper crop of tomatoes and jalapeño peppers.

By Gaele I saw this book on NetGalley and decided to give it a go. I had not heard of Alison Kent before, although I didn’t see great difficulty jumping in with the second book in the series.Hope Springs is a small town in Texas, and everyone seems to know everyone else. Luna is a designer, crafting scarves for sale, and has built quite a good reputation for her work. A life-long resident of this little town, she is often mired in her own head, and quite uncomfortable with her own past. She’s just purchased a home in town, and is working to sort through the personal items left behind.Angelo is back in town after a long absence: his sister’s accident and death many years ago has bothered him, and now he wants answers. Of course, when he left, he and Luna had a connection and relationship: but all of that is now shattered, mired in their own issues, grief and secrets. While I got plenty of information about the characters: even full bios and then some, and a reasonable timeline of the events, the emotional component and depth of the characters was missing. I couldn’t find it in me to care about what happened next, and the constant back and forth and interior dialog of Luna regarding Angelo was frustrating. No one seemed to make any forward progress, although we are often told that things are improving, or changing, or developing. And there was the problem: we are told all of these things, not shown, not demonstrated, and that pulled all of the emotional potential out of the story.Pacing was slow and often meandering, there were large swathes of text that told me things, but a few choice words could have had me feeling and visualizing, and improved the pacing and my reaction to the story. Sadly, this was another miss for me, another editor may have seen the need to remove much of the tell, and transformed it to show, and let the good bones of the plot and idea shine.I received an eArc copy of the story from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. This very intensive read is worthy of a high recommendation. By BBMoreB Alison Kent seamlessly wove a tapestry of desperation, heartbreak, and tragedy. Beneath the Patchwork Moon is a realistic tale of young love, secrets, and second chances. The charisma and emotion ingrained within this reunion story is very impressive.Luna Meadows is haunted, maybe even trapped, by her past. She has lived her entire life, sheltered, in the small town of Hope Springs. Ten years have passed since the accident that forever altered her reality and shaped her future. Determined to honor Sierra’s memory, Luna started a non-profit organization. The proceeds will fund the Hope Springs local community arts center. However, this decision has other unforeseen consequences – it brings her first love back into her life. Luna is a distinctive heroine; it took me a while to figure out exactly what made her so unique. I will not spoil it for future readers by sharing what I discovered. Just know that Ms. Kent did a fantastic job creating Luna and I hope everyone enjoys her story as much as I did.It has been eight years since Angelo Caffey last saw Luna. It was his choice, but now all these years later he questions that choice. When he learns that Luna is converting his childhood home into an art center he knows it is time to return to Hope Springs. He is unprepared for the memories that assault him upon his return. I love the intensification that Angelo brought to the story – his flaws and vulnerabilities perfectly complemented his strengths. This very intensive read is worthy of a high recommendation. However, I would have a light fluffy read on standby because this one left me emotionally wrecked.Disclosure: This book was provided to BBMoreB free of charge for the sole purpose of an honest review.
