When Noelle Cooke inherits a quaint English cottage and an art gallery from her famous Aunt Joy, she welcomes a departure from her San Diego routine. But the lure of the Cotswolds, combined with a locked cottage room and a revealing journal, entice her to stay and discover more, including a way to save the gallery from financial ruin. And that means remaining in England.
When her childhood sweetheart, Adam Spencer, begins work on a restoration project in Noelle's village, their friendship blossoms. But as her feelings for Adam deepen, she struggles with memories of what might have been and yearns for a future once thought lost.
Faced with a life-altering revelation Aunt Joy took to her grave and a wrenching choice regarding the man she loves, Noelle could lose far more than her heart.

Every summer when I get out of school, I want a first book to start my vacation off right. This book transported me to a different place, beautiful surroundings & interesting people. It brought back memories of the very first time you meet the person who will become the love of your life. Unforgettable. It makes you think of family & friends, & the people who matter the most in your life. I loved the way the author described the beautiful countryside, & the feelings Noelle & Adam had for each other. Wonderful read - would recommend to anyone who loves an honest, modern love story.

By charmdimsure Because this would be the perfect book for a dreary, rainy weekend in October, curled into a favorite chair, with a cup of tea and a wooly blanket. From the moment I started reading, I was pulled into Noelle's life. The air of unreality of her life in San Diego, to the moment her feet hit English soil, it felt as if Noelle was living the "wrong" life. Her feeling that she came home to Primrose Cottage after Aunt Joy's death was perfect. And the story truly started when she opened that room. This is a lovely book about second chances and standing up to speak your heart. Ms Borum's writing is easy to follow and set just the perfect tone. This isn't a book I'd recommend to anyone looking for ripping adventure or wild scenes of love and lust. This book evokes a time of gentler feelings and treasured moments. Small treasures and quiet pleasures abound. If you want a cozy read, a sweet experience, a finish with a sigh, this is it. I loved it, from the first word to the last and I look forward to more.

I loved the quotes at the start of each paragraph and will go back to them time and again. However, I found myself increasingly irritated by the idealistic view of the Cotswolds, (are there any quaint, undeveloped little villages left?) and ignorance of UK procedures and customs. e.g. Boxing Day is the day after Christmas Day, not 2 days, and it has been a very long rime since people went round on charity runs. Now it is the day the sales start. It is simplistic in that the heroine simply waltzed into her inheritance and began selling and spending. Probate takes weeks or months and what about the 40percent death duties? Then there is the matter of residency visas... See what I mean?It was the bridesmaids preceding the bride down the aisle that finished me off though. Unless US traditions have taken over, bridesmaids follow the bride in the UK.I sound terribly picky but research does matter. I would have given a much higher rating if I had not become so distracted by poor research.
