More than just the romance--it's a story on chasing dreams and golden opportunities By Presea Having read all of the author's available NA books, Playing Autumn is by far, my favorite. It tells the story of Haley Reese who meets her ultimate idol Oliver Cabrera on a plane ride back to Houston. Haley's volunteered to mentor up-and-coming musicians at a music camp, and wonder of wonders, Oliver is also a mentor. The festival became the perfect setting for them to get to know each other better, and eventually, find love while pursuing their music. Finally, THIS was the Mina V. Esguerra book that I could relate to on so many levels. It was mostly because the prose was so easy to get into and it made the reading experience easy so I could get straight to the feels right away.Speaking of feels, Playing Autumn paid homage to every fangirl out there who experienced the highs and lows, the exhilarating and sometimes depressing moments in any fandom. We've all been there, right? Crushing on real or fictional characters have been around for the longest time, thanks to mass media. Reading about my fangirl feels in a book was the best feeling, especially since I went through a similar existential dilemma as the characters in the story. Also, let me just say that Haley Reese and Oliver Cabrera is officially my favorite couple in a Mina V. Esguerra book. Their quirks, fears, and hangups seemed so real, making their attraction for each other even more genuine and believable. I particularly enjoyed reading Haley's fangirl monologue—I'm like...when will this happen to me?! I probably wouldn't have handled it with the same finesse, but still! I also liked the fact that Haley was her own person in the story. Sure, she had her best friend Victoria backing her up, but there wasn't a lot of page time devoted to her character (although I heard the author is already at work on Victoria's own story!). This was a great move on the part of the author because it gave Haley the levelheadedness to find the epiphany she needed for a satisfying HEA.Oliver, on the other hand, was also a joy to read. Despite his career spiraling down, he didn't come off as a desperate character, but instead had a lot of wisdom to him. And that grand gesture, my goodness! If that wasn't swoon-worthy for you, I don't know what would be.But more than just the romance, there was also a moral to the story—one that asked the right questions and gave meaningful insights about chasing dreams and doing something about golden opportunities. There were only a few things that made me feel disoriented, like the flashbacks and how Logan seemed like he was just a third party for the sake of having one. Logan was actually a good adversary—he embodied the world in which Haley's musician side couldn't possibly fit, but it wasn't as developed, and this led me to think that he was either Haley's indecisiveness personified or Logan wasn't just that quick to understand that no meant no.Nevertheless, these little things did not diminish my love and feels for this amazing story. Reading this book spoke to me in a personal way and at the right moment when I needed a swift kick in the behind. But enough about my existential emotional monologue—go read this book now! You definitely won't regret it.Review was posted on WillReadforFeels.com

Talk about flying and sitting together on a plane, spending the weekend, mentoring children music, it seems impossible to her. But it did happen but for her "Is this really happening?"I am totally into music related books. Plus, having the opportunity to read something of Mina V. Esguerra's is something that I definitely won't miss.I like both characters. Haley and Oliver have stories of their own and problems to face. They became the brief escape to each other's problems and were lead to rediscover themselves and their innate love for music through Breathe, the music festival for aspiring musicians. Breathe is definitely the kind of camp that I would definitely want to join. It looks so exciting and being able to just practice, improve and perform along with others would truly hone one's musical prowess. However, there were times that left me a little bit confused and yet, despite those moments, I kept going. There were some side stories that I wanted to learn more of and I think that would have made the story a truly amazing.Still, this book is a really good read. Some characters were introduced and I truly want to learn more of their story (particularly Olivia). I feel like Olivia's the type of girl that you'd definitely want to have as a friend (or best friend even). She loves her friends so much and is very passionate about what she does.If you're the type of person who looks for music, romance, a music camp and awesome musicians in their book, then Playing Autumn is definitely for you.

Thrown together for a mentoring program for young musicians, Oliver and Haley meet on an flight not knowing they are going to the same destination. He is a musician in trouble, one Haley has idolized for a long time. Ollie has been floundering around the last few years without a hit. . His last album was not that popular and he has been dropped by the label. No money coming in, he will soon be thrown out of his apartment. This is a last ditch effort to get him noticed by the young pop star who will also be a mentor, Trey. The kids they are each assigned have issues and Trey is really an arrogant ass. Haley was Trey's mentor before he got famous and he wants to pursue more with her. She is being realistic, she will not have a job in a few months and dreads going home. They enjoy each other's company and it turns into a sexual thing. She sees it as a weekend fling, Oliver wants more. Finally realizing what she has, Haley sees him at a concert and decides to take a chance.
