To begin, I had actually never read Murnane's first Waverly book, Perfect on Paper, until I was actually finished with this book. Having said that, there was never a moment while I was reading It's A Waverly Life that made me feel lost when there was a reference to the first book. However, after reading this book, I immediately wanted to go back and read the first because Waverly is an amazing character that's easy to relate to and a personality that will charm the wits out of you. You just can't get enough of her!At the beginning, everything seems to be going wonderful for Waverly.. but of course, all that glitters is not gold. Soon, things start going downhill and it seems as though all of it will consume her. However, Waverly never acts like a little damsel-in-distress. She takes charge and always confronts whatever may be going wrong. I love her attitude and the way that she doesn't seem to give up, even when you feel as a reader like you would if you were in her shoes.The romance in this story is just like it is in real life, it has its ups and its downs. But that's what makes love so much fun.. if you want it, you have to work for it. To my surprise though, the romance was not the center of attention in this story - which I really liked. Instead, it focused on other aspects of Waverly's life along with giving us a good helping of the romance along the way. I loved it.Overall, this was a wonderful read. I especially enjoyed all of the twists and turns in the story that kept me on the edge of my seat, eagerly wondering what was going to happen next. This isn't a YA read, but it is a story that Chick Lit fans will thoroughly enjoy.

She has her own dating column "Honey on Your Mind" and products she has developed called "Honey Notes." She also has some trust issues after being dumped just before her wedding by her fiancé.Almost immediately, I felt like I was a part of the friendship circle Waverly shares with friends Andie and McKenna, and I absolutely loved how the author brought San Francisco and its neighborhoods alive for me.Waverly's humor, her ability to see the unique perspectives in life, and the creativity that allowed her to move around the obstacles in her path kept me reading eagerly.Her fledgling relationship with Jake was also fascinating, and I loved how, in spite of her issues, she just kept trying.What does Waverly finally create when she is looking for something more in her career? How does she ultimately come to a place of trust with Jake? And how does a kindly neighbor named Red help Waverly sort out the puzzles in her life?Wonderfully colorful, descriptive, and alive, It's a Waverly Life was fun, perceptive, and totally today. Five stars.

By Kimberly Long I loved the follow-up to Murnane's "Perfect on Paper", which followed protagonist Waverly Bryson as she treaded the dating waters with new guy Jake and continued her new career writing a dating column and designing "Honey" greeting cards.Much of the book deals with Waverly's trust issues with men as a result of her strained relationship with her father and also being dumped by her ex fiance a week before the wedding. Waverly has no problem leaning on her girlfriends for advice and reassurance but she needs to take a leap a faith to do that with the new man in her life. Her complete lack of communication skills and paralyzing fear of being hurt might cause her to lose Jake, someone she really cares for. I found her to be extremely relatable. I also related to her bouts of insecurity and her general clumsiness as many "Waverly" moments were similar to my own "Meri" moments. And while there were times during the book I wanted to strangle Waverly for the things she said/didn't say, I found myself crossing my fingers for a happy ending.Like the prequel, "Perfect on Paper", "It's a Waverly Life" was a very fast, easy read and I found it difficult to put down. However, the editing in "It's a Waverly Life" was 100 times more polished than "Perfect on Paper" which, despite being a really fun read, had editing issues. The only storyline in the book I thought could've been left out was "Red". I understood what Murnane was going for but, to me, it fell a bit short. Otherwise, I thought this book was awesome!
